Plot

Medical drama series "Brain" involves around three doctors at prestigious Chunha University Hospital.
Lee Kang-Hoon (Shin Ha-Kyun) is an excellent, but arrogant, brain surgeon at Chunha University Hospital. He came from a poor family background and is still haunted by the painful memory of his father's death which was caused by the rejection of a doctor. Kang-Hoon has a strong desire to succeed and prove that he is the best. His rival is Joon-Suk (Jo Dong-Hyeok) who comes from a family of doctors and has basically everything. Kim Sang-Chul (Jeong Jin-Yeong) is known as the best brain surgeon at Chunha University Hospital. He also cares about his patients and has a strong dislike for Kang-Hoon.
One day, a young man collapses at an indoor swimming pool and is sent to the hospital. The patient is Unconscious on arrival. Kang-Hoon gives the order to prepare for surgery, but Joon-Suk suggests that they call Kim Sang-Chul to perform the surgery. Kang-Hoon replies that there isn't enough time and performs the surgery himself, while other doctors observe the operation.
During the surgery, there's a dangerous moment when the patient's aneurysm ruptures. At this time, Joon-Suk calls Kim Sang-Chul. Kim Sang-Chul runs to the operation room. Meanwhile, Kang-Hoon manages the operation well and the surgery is a success, but he leaves the last clip for the vice director of the hospital. Kang-Hoon wants to gain the favor of the vice director. Because of her arrogant attitude, he isn't welcome by anybody at the hospital.
While, Kang-Hoon takes a rest in his office he receives a phone call from his younger sister. Kang-Hoon says he is busy and hangs up. He attends a conference of junior doctors. There Kang-Hoon asks questions to the junior doctors, but none of them are able to answer his questions. Kang-Hoon then asks for their chief doctor who is Ji-Hye (Choi Jung-Won). Ji-Hye is not there. Kang-Hoon yells at them to follow him.
On the way, Kang-Hoon and his partiy happens to meet Kim Sang-Chul and Ji-Hye. Kim Sang-Chul blames Kang-Hoon for not checking on his patient after the surgery.
When Kang-Hoon is back in his office, he begins to blame the others and especially Ji-Hye, who did not graduate from Chunha University. Ji-Hye talks back to Kang-Hoon. Kang-Hoon decides to seek revenge by giving out work. While Ji-Hye is writing a report asked for by Kang-Hoon, Joon-Sook surprises her. Ji-Hye replies that she can't understand why Kang-Hoon has such a strong dislike for her. Joon-Suk tells her not to confront Kang-Hoon. At the cafeteria, Kang-Hoon eats lunch alone. Joon-Suk asks Kang-Hoon to be nice to Ji-Hye. Kang-Hoon aks him whether he likes her.

Ko Eun-Bi (Ku Hye-Sun) is a medical student, but she dreams of becoming a musical actress. She thinks about musicals all day and even dreams about musicals at night.
Hong Jae-Hee (Daniel Choi) comes back to South Korea. He used to compose songs for musicals, but now writes pop songs. His friend says that Jae-Hee changed because of his break-up with Bae Kang-Hee (Ok Joo-Hyun) 6 years ago.
One day, Eun-Bi practices a song while out in a park and Hong Jae-Hee, who fell asleep in the park after drinking too much alcohol, is awaken by her singing. Jae-Hee tells Eun-Bi that he wrote the song "Maria Maria" that she is singing. Eun-Bi doesn't believe him. Jae-Hee advises her that without talent she shouldn't think of becoming a musical actress.
Eun-Bi, ignoring Jae-Hee's opinion, decides to take time off from medical school to take part in numerous auditions. She fails all of them. With only 2 weeks left before she has to return to medical school Eun-Bi becomes desperate. She spots an audition advertisement looking for a male musical actor. Eun-Bi decides to take part in the audition dressing up as a man. Her ruse is discovered though by Yoo-Jin (Park Gi-Woong), an investor for musicals, and she is kicked out from the audition.
In the bathroom of the audition, Eun-Bi meets a woman named Sa Bok-Ja (Park Kyeong-Rim). Bok-Ha insists she is a musical instructor and gives lessons to Eun-Bi. Bok-Ja even moves into Eun-Bi's apartment. Eun-Bi then decides to take a year off from school, believing that with lessons from Bok-Ja she cam make her dreams come true.
A creative musical contest is then held by an investment company led by Yoo-Jin. Meanwhile, a friend of Jae-Hee asks him to write two songs for the contest, but Jae-Hee refuses. Later, Jae-Hee drinks with a bunch of people including Bok-Ja. Bok-Ja has become drunken and grabs Jae-Hee without letting him go. Jae-Hee takes Bok-Ja back to his place and uses her cellphone to call someone. The person that answers is Eun-Bi. A short while later, Eun-Bi arrives at Jae-Hee's place. Jae-Hee learns that Eun-Bi wants to become a musical actress and asks her to sing to a melody while he plays something on the piano. Eun-Bi improvises lyrics about how she met her musical teacher and also a drunken man who insisted he wrote the song Maria Maria. Jae-Hee now remembers her from the park. Eun-Bi also now realizes that the man in the park was really Jae-Hee ...

Plot

As children, Young-Gwang meets Jane at her birthday party. His father works as a chauffer to Jane's father. At Jane's birthday party, by chance, Young-Gwang bumps into a boy named In-Woo. In-Woo's father is the vice president of a trading company that Jane's father runs. In-Woo looks down on Young Gwang.
Meanwhile, at the company, Jane's father Yoon Il-Goo (Ahn Nae-Sang) receives an unexpected visit from his friend District Attorney Oh (No Kyung-Joo). D.A. Oh mentions that his trading company is under investigation because of slush funds. Yoon Il-Goo begins to suspect his friend, company vice president Seo Jae-Myung (Son Chang-Min). On the way to Jane's birthday party, Yong Il-Goo tells Seo Jae-Myung to go to the district attorney's office. Seo Jae-Myung refuses and reaches for the car door handle. While they are struggling, the car becomes involved in an accident and falls over into a nearby body of water. The car is completely submerge in water and Seo Jae-Myug grabs a body and swims to land. Once he makes it out of the water he realizes that the man he pulled out of the car was the chauffer Kim In-Bae (Lee Gi-Yeong) and not company president Yoon-Il Goo.
At Jane's birthday party, a baseball game is organized. Young-Gwang never played baseball before, but because of In-Woo's cocky behavior takes part in the game. During the game Young-Gwang hits a home run. He then signs his name on the baseball and gives it to Jane. He also asks her to marry him one day. At this time Jane's mother receives a phone call from the hospital. Jane's mother takes Jane and drives off to the hospital. Because of heavy rains, Jane's mother gets into a car accident. Rescuers found Jane's mom unconcsious, but couldn't find Jane. Jane was thrown out of the car and loses her memory in the process.
At the hospital, vice president Seo Jae-Myung is questioned by the district attorney. At this time the chauffeur lies and says the cause of the accident was heavy rain. Vice president Seo Jae-Myung then hears the news of the car accident involving Jane and her mother. The police then calls vice president Seo Jae-Myung and informs him that a girl matching the description of Jane was found, but she has no memory of who she is. Seo Jae-Myung instructs the chauffeur to go pick up Jane and take her to a place where nobody will know. He promises that he does this, he will help to open a restaurant and take care of his children for life.
Because of the accident Jane can't remember even her own name, but she does find a baseball with the words "Young-Gwang's first home run" on it in her bag. Soon after, vice president Seo Jae-Myung takes the position of company president. The chauffer takes Jane to a distant orphanage and drops her off. Out of guilt, the chauffer tells her that her name is Jane and don't forget her name.
Years later, Young-Gwang and In-Woo both become professional baseball players. In-Woo is the cleanup hitter for a major league team, while Young-Gwang is demoted to the minor leagues due to his poort hitting. The coach of the minor league team warns Young-Gwang that he has only 2 months to raise his batting average above .200 or he will be kicked off the team.
One day, Young-Gwang and In-Woo are injured in different games and brought to the same hospital at almost the same time. In-Woo recieves all the attention, while Young-Gwang is largely ignored. Suddenly, a nurse's aide comes up to Young-Gwang and tells him that she has been his fan since he was a high school player, because of his name Young-Gwang.
